International Court To Rule on Land Next to Preah Vihear Temple (Cambodia news in Khmer)
Uploaded by voakhmerservice on Jul 18, 2011
The International Court of Justice in the Hague is prepared to release a decision over the controversial Preah Vihear temple, which has been at the heart of a military and diplomatic dispute between Cambodia and Thailand. The court is expected to announce a decision Tuesday over ownership of the temple and adjacent lands. Both sides claim a strip of land west of the temple, creating a military standoff that has led to a number of deadly clashes in recent years. VOA Khmer's Chun Sakada reports from Phnom Penh.

Brother No. 2 'Not Happy' as Tribunal Hearing Opens (Cambodia news in KHmer)

A landmark trial for the UN-backed Khmer Rouge tribunal is officially under way in Phnom Penh, with the opening Monday of a preliminary hearing for four former leaders of the regime. The three-day hearing will focus on procedural questions, such as the number of witnesses to
be called, with a full trial to come later this year. However, the hearing marked the beginning of a trial that Cambodians have awaited for decades, with the accused charged with a raft of atrocity crimes, including genocide. Hundreds of people filed into the tribunal courtroom on the outskirts of Phnom Penh Monday morning, with all four
leaders—Nuon Chea, Khieu Samphan, Ieng Sary and Ieng Thirith—present at first. Nuon Chea, the chief ideologue of the regime known as Brother No. 2, left the hearing early, saying he was "not happy" with the court. Ieng Sary and Ieng Thirith also left early, claiming health difficulties. That left only Khieu Samphan, the nominal head of the
regime, to face the Trial Chamber. VOA khmer's Kong Sothanarith reports from Phnom Penh.
